A rooster for resistance

0
The Romans used to mock the Gauls because the word gallus used to name them in Latin also meant rooster. Over time the kings of France appropriated the rooster and adopted it as a symbol of courage and bravery. During the French Revolution, it became the emblem of the people and the state. In 1871, the city of Nancy remained part of France while Alsace and Moselle, including Strasbourg and Metz, were attached to Germany by the Treaty of Frankfurt. On the Villa Majorelle, a window destroyed by bombardments in 1914 was replaced by a rooster, symbolizing resistance.
