The coast of the Lérins Islands, located off Cannes in the Alpes-Maritimes department, is predominantly rocky and jagged, with occasional small sandy beaches. Saint-Honorat Island has a limestone sand beach of Terrigenous origin, also composed of dolomitic limestones from the Jurassic period. The island of Sainte-Marguerite, for its part, has limestone cliffs culminating at 85 ft (26 m) on which the Fort Royal stands.
