Though artificially created at the beginning of the 1970s as a water reservoir, Lake Madine and its ponds are home to an abundant aquatic avifauna. During the nesting or migration period, more than 250 bird species have been identified on their waters by the Natura 2000 program. They feed on a rich and diverse water life consisting, among other things, of crested newt, spotted newt, or green frogs.
