A rich religious history

The village of Séguret in the Vaucluse department is massed under the Saint-Denis church inside which the inhabitants represent the Mystery of the Shepherds (Li Bergié) each year on Christmas Eve. The church, whose first construction in Romanesque style dates from the 10th century, was enlarged in the 13th century when it lost its initial eastern orientation. Its side nave was added in several steps during the 17th and 18th centuries. With the Sainte-Thècle and Notre Dame des Grâces chapels, it bears witness to the rich religious heritage of a village that remained under papal governance for 517 years from 1274 to 1791.
