The rural municipality of Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges, in the southwest of the Haute-Garonne department, only had 240 inhabitants in 2019. However, it benefits from a remarkable natural heritage formed by a Natura 2000 site, a protected area, and no less than six natural areas of ecological interest, fauna, and flora (ZNIEFF). An ancient Roman city then called Lugdunum, Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges became a major pilgrimage place on the way to Santiago de Compostela and was listed among the Plus Beaux Villages de France (Most Beautiful Villages of France) in 1982.
