A rich and varied flora over five levels

The combination of the meteorological elements, the proximity of the Mediterranean Sea, the high altitude, and the asymmetry of Mont Ventoux are at the origin of the richness and diversity of the massif's flora. It is made up of four hundred plant genera and more than a thousand species spread over five levels of vegetation where Mediterranean and mid-European flora rub shoulders with alpine varieties. As for the summit's desert-like thermoclastic scree zone, it is subject to an extreme climate and hosts species observed in the Arctic region, such as the Spitsbergen saxifrage or the small hairy poppy from Greenland.
