A revolutionary furnace

In order to respect the architecture of the sails designed by Frank Gehry, the glass roofs of the Louis Vuitton Foundation were cut into 3,584 panes of 1.5x3 m, with different curvatures. The largest of the twelve windows, located at the top of the museum, covers 3,100 m² and has 900 glass panels. The glass was bent in a specially designed furnace. The glass is inserted flat, softened, and then simultaneously soaked and mechanically shaped. This revolutionary process made it possible to produce each pane of glass in just 10 minutes, a considerable time saving compared to conventional manufacturing.
