The restoration of the Roman theater of Vaison-la-Romaine began between 1932 and 1934 as the partial restitution of its various elements was carried out by the Historical Monuments' chief architect Jules Formigé. A second restoration campaign was led between 2005 and 2008 to improve the state of conservation of the site and strengthen and drain the remains degraded by erosion, temperature variations, water stagnation, and foot traffic. In addition to the strict restoration work, the adjusting of the theater to the safety standards of an outdoor performance building was carried out to continue welcoming both the visitors and the spectators of the annual Dance Festival and the triennial Choralies.
