The Monts d'Azur reserve in the Alpes-Maritimes department covers 1,730 acres (700 ha) of meadows, wooded areas, and rocky slopes that provide a multitude of habitats for the fauna it shelters. The harems of Przewalski horses occupy the lakeside meadow and the more wooded meadow in the west of the reserve. The group of single males develops in the higher parts of the territory.
