To regulate its temperature, the Hermann's tortoise (Testudo hermanni hermanni) heats up in the sun when its internal temperature is below 77 to 86°F (25-30°C) and looks for places in the shade above this range. It then takes refuge at the foot of bushes or in the cooler and humid environments of its home range extended over a fairly small territory of one to several hectares to which, as a sedentary reptile, it remains faithful all its life.
