A region of canals and rivers

Burgundy has 807 miles (1,300 km) of canals and rivers. Among them, the Canal d'Épizy, near the medieval town of Joigny, harbors significant biodiversity. Further on, the Canal de Bourgogne crosses the entire Côte-d'Or department from the Yonne to the Saône. It meanders through the Ouche valley, land of witches and of the Bel Affreux cave. The Canal du Nivernais and the vaults of the Colançay tunnel (831 yards / 760 m) lead to Clamecy, the former capital of the floating timber trade. The Canal du Centre passes through the great vineyards of Burgundy and makes a stop in the heart of the Romanesque architecture of Paray-le-Monial.
