A record viaduct

Imagined by the architects Michel Virlogeux and Lord Norman Foster, the Millau Viaduct accumulates records. Its pillar no.2 is the highest in the world (803 ft / 245m). With its pylon, it brings the height of the bridge beyond that of the Eiffel Tower, with 1,131 ft against 1,082 ft (345 m for 330 m). The viaduct's cable-stayed deck is the longest across the planet (8,070 ft / 2,460 m), ahead of that of the Rion-Antirion bridge in Greece (7,388 ft / 2,252 m). Its four-lane divided highway with two emergency lanes is perched 885 ft (270 m) above the Tarn valley.
