Present in Camargue in colonies of hundreds to thousands of individuals, greater flamingos (Phoenicopterus roseus) sleep on one leg while hiding their head under their wing. This position requires little effort and helps the bird protect itself from the cold. Unlike its feathered body, its long and exposed legs are particularly sensitive to variations in temperature.
