During the exploration of the Saint-Jean mine's galleries, nearly 150 mineral varieties were identified. At the end of the 18th century, the sites near Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines were renowned for unique discoveries, such as the unearthing of fluckite, rauenthalite, and phaunouxite. Today, the Tellure mining park exhibits rare specimens, and annual excavations are conducted by the Speleological Association for the Study and Protection of Ancient Mines (ASEPAM). The argentiferous area of the Neuenberg massif is protected from looters and listed as a Historic Monument since 1994.
