The Marais de la Touques extend over 3,706 acres (1,500 ha) next to Deauville in the Calvados department. The site constitutes a protected aquatic environment home to a great diversity of birds (212 species), nine species of amphibians, and 32 types of odonates (dragonflies). Their habitats made up of water ponds, salt meadows, wet meadows, or vast reedbeds have shaped the landscape in the heart of the Pays d'Auge. The departmental council manages 185 acres (75 ha) of the Marais de la Touques.
