Sainte-Marguerite Island is almost exclusively owned by the French State and the municipality of Cannes. The only exception concerns the private property of the Grand Jardin, acquired in 2020 by a Swiss company to accommodate exceptional stays. The city of Cannes owns the Fort Royal, the land on which the village made up of around twenty rented buildings extends and a few forest plots. Most of the island corresponds to the public forest owned by the Ministry of Agriculture and managed by the National Forests Office.
