A progressive tourist development

Born from the initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture and EDF (Electricity of France), the Lac de Serre-Ponçon project did not include a tourist component. The increase in its attendance in the mid-1980s prompted the nine Hautes-Alpes municipalities bordering the lake to unite to develop the site and its nautical activities. In 1999, EDF made available to SMADESEP (Syndicat Mixte d'Aménagement et de Développement de Serre-Ponçon) some land from its concession area for the management of nautical and tourist activities around the lake.
