A privileged and open panorama

The Pic du Midi de Bigorre is the highest point in the Pyrenees mountain range with access by cable car. Although the weather is often capricious, the site offers privileged views during moments of sunshine and opens onto a massif that stretches for 186 mi (300 km) around. When the sky is clear, night observations are of paramount importance to the Pic du Midi Observatory. NASA even installed its own telescope there for the mapping of the moon in preparation for the Apollo missions.
