Since 1901, the 18th-century convent buildings of Cluny Abbey have housed a campus of the École Nationale Supérieure d'Arts et Métiers (ENSAM), one of the oldest engineering schools in France. Founded in 1780 by the Duke of La Rochefoucauld-Liancourt, this territorialized national school has a network of eight campuses spread throughout France in order to increase its presence in the national industrial fabric. Cluny Abbey is the most illustrious of the buildings it occupies. Its campus has forged its reputation in three specific areas of expertise: high-speed machining, wood industry, and digital modeling and virtual imaging.
