Robert Marichy, a master woodturner in Neglia (Arinthod), obtained the Meilleur Ouvrier de France (French craftsperson of the year) award in 1990. This title was suggested by Lucien Klotz in 1913, created in 1924, and awarded for the first time a year later. The medal, with a blue enameled background, features a character holding a compass with the motto Joie et Travail(joy and work). It was created in 1932 by Albert Lagriffoul, laureate of the Rome Prize of Sculpture. After receiving the award at the Sorbonne, the recipient is honored by a ceremony at the Élysée palace with the President of the Republic.
