The barquette marseillaise is a rather pot-bellied boat but pointed at both ends. Its bow, which goes well above the gunwale, is extended by a very protruding and particularly worked piece of wood called capian. Vertical and almost symmetrical, the stem and stern are mounted on a straight keel. The barquette marseillaise is also characterized by its rounded master beam with a slightly marked chine.
