The old port of Antibes is located in the Saint-Roch cove of the Baie des Anges. This cove forms a maritime shelter used by sailors since Antiquity. Founded by the Phocaeans in the 4th century BC, it corresponds to the part of the current Port Vauban stretching from the Marine Gate to the Bastion Saint-Jaume. Used as a fishing port and a naval base, the port, then called Antipolis, was also an antique trading post of the Mediterranean coast like Monaco, Nice, Cannes, and Marseille.
