At the gates of Spain, the town of Port-Vendre is a typical Catalan natural port. Its location at the extremity of southern France with privileged landscapes and coves makes it a renowned tourist destination. The history of Port-Vendre goes back to Antiquity, and this deep-water port unique in the Pyrénées-Orientales department is today a marina and a fishing and trading port. The French municipality is culturally part of Northern Catalonia, and its 4,016 inhabitants (2019) bear the name of Port-Vendrais.
