A plant essential to the transhumance of bees
1
0
The beekeepers of the Valensole plateau in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and of the neighboring departments practice the transhumance of bees, for which lavender constitutes an essential stage. Before the harvest, they set up their hives in the flowering fields so that the bees forage on lavandin and produce honey. The increasing tourist attendance of the Valensole plateau and the ongoing diversification and mechanization of the crops are somewhat challenging this practice that beekeepers endeavor to maintain in the most preserved areas of the plateau.
