Place d'Albertas extends in downtown Aix-en-Provence on the edge of Rue Espariat parallel to Cours Mirabeau and opposite Rue Aude. It is dedicated to the Albertas family, which became one of the most influential of Aix-en-Provence in the 18th century. In 1724, the Marquis Henri Reynaud d'Albertas, advisor to the King and first president of the Provence Court of Auditors, had his mansion renovated and, from 1735 to 1741, bought and demolished the houses facing it. In 1745-1746, his son Jean-Baptiste had a small square designed according to the Parisian fashion for royal squares in the freed space.
