A pioneer in lace

From 1650, Marthe La Perrière imitated and perfected the Point de Venise to end up creating the Point d'Alençon in 1656. Her first piece was called la Colberte. The Point d'Alençon relies on 10 to 12 different steps. La Perrière set up groups, each dealing with a precise phase. By organizing the work, she contributed to the development of lace in Alençon and to the prosperity of the city, which competed with Venice.
