A peninsula apart from the rest of Martinique

0
The Caravelle peninsula is almost an island on its own on the island of Martinique. Located on its windward or Atlantic coast, it embodies a wild coastline, very different from the Caribbean coast. This rocky promontory that juts out into the ocean for 7.4 miles (12 km) forms a territory of volcanic rocks indented with bays, beaches, and cliffs. Its arid vegetation of dry forests and shrubby savannahs sets it apart from the rest of the island. The peninsula's wild north coast with steep relief contrasts with its more welcoming south coast where the protected Baie du Galion, with the beach of Anse Spoutoune, and Baie du Trésor extend.
