Built during the first half of the 17th century, the castle of Rustrel has been partially classified and listed as a Historical Monument since May 1989, a status that provides it with partial protection. Its elements listed by decree of May 9, 1989, are its monumental Louis XII fireplace, located in the current hall of the municipal council, and the large room with painted ornamentation at the northeast corner of the first floor. The castle's facades and roofs were also listed as Historical Monuments by a decree of the same date.
