Spread over 4,200 acres (1,700 ha) of land and 7,166 acres (2,900 ha) of marine surfaces, Port-Cros National Park is home to a significant historical heritage. In addition to some thirty wrecks lying on its seabed, it shelters Roman remains and around twenty military forts. The islands of Port-Cros and Porquerolles alone have no less than four forts (Sainte-Agathe, Grand Langoustier, Repentance, and Estissac).
