A once flourishing wine-growing tradition

The wines of the Hautes Collines (High Hills) vineyard are part of the long wine-growing tradition of the Baous region, which only the Rasse family perpetuates today in Saint-Jeannet. The local wine-growing activity was flourishing in the 19th century thanks to its implantation of indigenous grape varieties on very sunny hillsides spread out between 131 and 1,312 ft (40 and 400 m) above sea level. It declined considerably at the beginning of the 20th century after an infestation of phylloxera decimated the local vineyards and resulted in the marginalization of vine cultivation.
