The common prawn (Palaemon serratus) is a small decapod crustacean resembling the prawn which lives on rocky coastal bottoms or in seagrass up to 164 ft (50 m) deep. It is mainly fished with pots on the rocky coasts of Cotentin and Calvados but is also caught with fine-mesh trawls at Grandcamp-Maisy. Its minimum capture size and weight are 1.9 inches (5 cm) i.e 0,07 to 0,1 oz (2 to 3 grams). The Palaemon serratus can go up to 3.9 inches (10 cm) and 0.5 oz (15 grams). Its fishing, authorized from August 1 to February 28 on all the Normandy coasts, has a very marked seasonality, with a high season in September and October. Twenty tons of these prawns are landed annually in Normandy at Port-en-Bessin, Grandcamp-Maisy, Cherbourg, Granville, Dieppe, and Fécamp.
