A new unofficial regional name

The name Région Sud (Southern region) replaced the acronym PACA (Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur) at the beginning of 2018 to unofficially designate the regional institution of south-eastern France. Officially, it does not constitute a name change for the region, whose denomination remains Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, but rather a new, more emblematic identity. A refreshed logo retaining the traditional heraldic symbols of the arms of Provence, Dauphiné, and the County of Nice at its heart while stylizing its shape has been created for the occasion.
