The municipality of Le Robert is located on the Atlantic coast of Martinique, 12.4 miles (20 km) northwest of Fort-de-France. The island's third largest city after Fort-de-France and Le Lamentin, Le Robert had a population of 21,913 in 2019. Located at an average altitude of approximately 521 ft (159 meters), it covers 11,690 acres (4,730 ha) facing one of the most sought-after bays on the island. Its maritime facade is made up of two hilly points advancing towards the sea, Pointe Larose to the south and Pointe Jean-Claude to the north and flanking a natural port. The village, originally populated by farmers and fishermen, was previously called Cul-de-Sac (dead end). Founded around its parish by Father Labat in 1694, it is dominated by the Sainte-Rose-de-Lima church built in the 18th century.
