A bird enthusiast, the ornithologist guide Antoine Cubaixo can identify the 310 species of birds that can be observed all year round around the Lac de Der-Chantecoq. Whether breeding or migrating, thousands of birds stop over for a few days or a few months in this natural area classified as Natura 2000. Antoine also helps the League for the Protection of Birds (LPO) during the counting process. Between 200,000 and 300,000 Common Cranes (Grus grus) stop over at Lac du Der every year on their way south. The year 2019 was particularly spectacular with an increased presence of 30%.
