The Cité de l'Automobile aims to be both a museum of automobile creation and the most important car collection in the world. Its motor-racing track allows the Cité de l'Automobile to organize exhibitions of emblematic models. The International Association of Friends of the Museum (AIAM) was created in 1998 to bring together amateurs and enthusiasts within an organized structure. Its members participate in restoring vintage cars for the museum and take part in numerous events on the motor-racing track.
