The municipality of Le Vauclin borders the Atlantic coast of Martinique south of Le François, east of Le Saint-Esprit, northeast of Rivière-Pilote, and north of Le Marin. Its territory of 24.6 square miles (39.6 km²) covered with a xerophilous (dry) to mesophilic (moderately humid) forest, extends from the seaside to 1,653 ft (504 m) above sea level at the top of the Vauclin mountain. The municipality was born in 1837 around the residence and the sugar cane and tobacco plantations of the Seigneur de Vauquelin. Its population of 8,619 inhabitants in 2019 has a majority of fishermen and experiences a high unemployment rate.
