A mosaic island

The island of Porquerolles presents, to the south, a steep coast dominated by cliffs dotted with a few creeks. To the north, its sandy beaches and turquoise waters welcome numerous boats at anchor. In the center of the island, five chains of hills mainly wooded with holm oaks separate four cultivated and landscaped plains that open onto the sea through vast beaches interspersed with low rocky escarpments. Since 1978, these areas have been home to hundreds of tree varieties from varietal collections brought together by the National Mediterranean Botanical Conservatory of Porquerolles and Port-Cros National Park. They are testament to the biodiversity and identity of the territory and, since 2017, to an organic market gardening activity.
