The thirteen solitary cells of the monastery of Notre-Dame de Clémence are individual hermitages made up of four rooms. The entrance is through the Ave Maria, where a statue of the Virgin stands protecting the Charterhouse. Then come the promenoir, intended for relaxation and physical exercise, and the cubiculum. This living room includes an alcove with a plank bed and a straw mattress, a refectory table placed in front of the window, and a stall for prayer and meditation. Finally, the workshop is the space dedicated to manual work and amenities. Each cell opens onto the large cloister and is extended by a private garden surrounded by high walls designed to preserve the solitude of the nuns.
