A monastery building on three levels
0
0
The architecture of the abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel bears witness to the mastery and craftsmanship of many generations of builders. For centuries, ever more beautiful and audacious buildings have followed one another to form a unique architectural ensemble. For its elegant design, the main monastery building, built from 1211 onwards on the north side of the abbey church, deserves the nickname “Wonder”. It includes, above the chaplaincy and the 12th century cellar, the Guests’ and Knights’ halls and, on the top floor, the refectory and the cloister with its staggered columns which opens onto the sea on one side.
