In 2004, the French Railway Museum in Mulhouse was completely renovated and expanded to house thousands of railway objects and 151 items of equipment from the French heritage collection. Renamed the ‘Cité du Train’, the museum presents a lively setting, rich in sounds and videos. The railway is presented according to several themes: holidays, the mountain, wars, etc. There are also official trains, such as that of General de Gaulle, equipped with a 2.10 m bed, or one of the carriage of Napoleon III’s train. The “Quais de l‘Histoire” space retraces a little of France’s history.
