The National Theater of Nice extends on the esplanade that covers the Paillon River and borders the Boulevard Jean Jaurès from the Jardin Albert 1er in the south-west to the Jardin du Maréchal Juin in the north-east. Resolutely modern in its architecture, it contrasts with the buildings of the Old Nice, characteristic of the town planning of an Italian city fortified in the modern era. The district's narrow and winding streets are home to many Baroque churches and buildings covered with ocher and Sardinian red plasters.
