During the Second World War, Pont-Audemer suffered severe US bombardments that destroyed most of its western district, sparing the historic center. Today, the town of the Eure department still displays canals lined with typical half-timbered and brick Norman houses from the 15th and 16th centuries. Initiated in the 11th century, the Saint-Ouen church still shows its Flamboyant Gothic style. Modern works also adorn the town center, such as the lace-shaped gray and white pavement of Place du Pot d'Étain or the futuristic pink lines of Le Ciné movie theater.
