Despite its modest size, the historic heart of Besse-et-Saint-Anastaise has eight buildings protected as Historic Monuments. Remarkable for its architecture inherited from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, the town located at the crossroads of the Limagne plain and the Sancy mountains used to be an ideal trade location. In order to preserve and enhance this heritage, the historic centre is now classified as a remarkable heritage site by the Ministry of Culture.
