The Sainte-Victoire mountain is a massif of the Western Alps whose Jurassic limestone sediments are made up of both Pyrenean-Provençal remains and alpine geology. It is located east of Aix-en-Provence in the departments of Bouches-du-Rhône and Var and in the municipalities of Puyloubier, Saint-Antonin-sur-Bayon, Rousset, Châteauneuf-le-Rouge, Beaurecueil, Le Tholonet, Vauvenargues, Saint-Marc-Jaumegarde, Pourrières, Artigues, and Rians. The Sainte-Victoire mountain forms a west-east oriented massif extending over 11 mi (18 km) long and 3 mi (5 km) wide and culminating at Pic des Mouches at 3,316 ft (1,011 m) above sea level near its eastern end.
