The weekly Monday morning market (8 a.m. to 1 p.m.) in Forcalquier is an institution that dates back to the Middle Ages and perpetuates the tradition of an ancestral trade. The stalls protected by awnings of the two hundred or so merchants mainly occupy the central Place du Bourguet, on either side of the departmental road that crosses the city, but overflows far into the old town and the adjacent streets and squares. In summer, the event hosts around fifty additional traders. This market, the largest in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department, attracts many visitors from all over the region.
