A manufacture in four steps

Since 1865, the Cornille-Havard family has perpetuated the tradition of casting bells, whether monumental or decorative. The foundry still uses the double-vault reverberatory furnace, with a capacity of 13 tons, of its ancestors. The manufacture of a church bell happens in four steps: the core, the false bell, the yoke, and the crown. The core is made of refractory bricks covered with a mixture of clay, horse dung, and goat hair. It is made using a wooden or metal template and placed in a crucible oven.
