The Pont de Normandie is located as close as possible to the mouth of the Seine, near Sandouville. The sandy alluvial zone in which it extends can be subject to winds of up to 110 mph (180 km/h), and its construction was a major technological challenge. Two inverted Y-pylons send the weight of the deck to the foundations via the stay cables. Each pylon has 28 piles almost 194 ft (50 m) long that go down to the limestone beds, each supporting 32,000 tons.
