Better known as the Tautavel cave, the Caune de l'Arago is a remarkable paleontological site. Since the 1960s, the excavations carried out there have not ceased to reveal the scientific richness resulting from the study of the different layers of the cave's filling. The excavations began under the leadership of Henry and Marie-Antoinette de Lumley after they discovered a first tooth in 1965. In July 1971, they unearthed the skull of what became the Man of Tautavel.
