In western Honduras, 12 km from the Guatemalan border, a major heritage hides under the canopy. In the fifth century, the great Mayan chief Kinich Yax Kuk Mo moved to Copán, formerly known as Xukpi. He is at the origin of a dynasty of sixteen kings, which will make the town one of the greatest Mayan cities of the time. Thanks to the richness of the sculptures and the size of the monuments, Copán is classified a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1980.
