A loud yet essential call
1
0
Gulls are noisy birds with loud, shrill calls. They often cry and in all kinds of circumstances, for example, to communicate with each other or warn the group in case of danger. Auditory stimuli also play an important role in the recognition of the partner among the colony of gulls. Experiments have shown that a sleeping gull is not woken up by its noisy fellow gulls, while the identical call of its partner wakes it up immediately.
